Overview

A flat, scenic stage along the Adriatic coast from Ravenna to Rimini, among coastal pine woods, salt pans and canal ports: from Byzantine mosaics to Roman and Malatesta Rimini.

Notes from the road

The Romagna coast runs flat, almost entirely on cycle path. In summer the seafront fills with people and the ride slows to walking pace. March or late September give the same sea with more room to ride. Rimini closes the stage with the Ponte di Tiberio and the traffic of the centre.

What to see

Basilica of San Vitale in Ravenna, pine woods of Classe and Cervia, Cervia salt pans, Leonardesque canal port of Cesenatico, Rimini with the Bridge of Tiberius, the Arch of Augustus and the Tempio Malatestiano

Where to sleep

Hotels in Ravenna (80-130€); coastal B&Bs (65-100€); hotels in Rimini (70-120€); agriturismo in the Rimini hinterland (60-85€)

Where to eat

Piadina romagnola IGP, brodetto fish stew, grilled sardoncini, herb-filled cassoni, Sangiovese di Romagna

Tips

An easy recovery stage, mostly on cycle paths. The pine woods can be windy: adjust your pace. Rimini is packed in summer: cross the centre with care.

Water & supplies

Water and services almost continuous along the Romagna coast: Cervia, Cesenatico at mid-stage, Bellaria. No isolated sections; in summer the cycle paths are crowded and the sun relentless, with no shade. Fountains in the seaside towns.

Places to stay on this stage

No places listed for this stage yet: the overnight network is a work in progress.

An amateur, non-profit project. The tracks are indicative: everyone rides independently, at their own risk.
