Via delle Abbazie

Credential and Testimonium

The credential is the cycling pilgrim's travel document, a sheet that fills with stamps one abbey after another. The Testimonium is the certificate we would like to give to those who reach Montecassino. Here you'll find what already exists and what is still being prepared.

Available

Printable credential: free, available now

Print it at home or download the PDF from the Credential page. Folded in a waterproof pouch, it travels with you, and at every abbey you ask for a stamp. If you find it closed, or the abbey has none, a signature will do, or the stamp of a café or the town hall. A dated photo at the entrance counts too.

Print the credential

You will find it on the Credential page of the site, with the Print and Download PDF buttons.

Physical credential: in preparation

We are preparing a credential on durable paper, to pick up at some abbeys or receive by post. It will come later, free or for a voluntary donation, just to cover printing. Leave your email and we'll let you know as soon as it's ready.

Testimonium: in preparation

We would like to give a certificate to those who reach Montecassino with a full credential. For now the Testimonium is still a plan. We are defining the rules, for example how many kilometres to ride and how many stamps to collect, and, if the community wishes, how to involve the Abbey. Meanwhile, keep your credential: those filled in from 2026 will count once the Testimonium arrives.

Being designed

Digital stamp (QR): being designed

One day, along the Via, there may be a small sign with a QR code at every stop. You scan it with your phone and a mark with date and place appears in your digital credential. The paper stamp stays: the QR code sits alongside it when the porter's lodge is closed. It will also help us see how many people pass each abbey, so hospitality can be better organised. We will collect only the minimum data needed, with no continuous tracking. For now the service is switched off.

How it works, step by step

  1. Print the credential before you leave and write your name on it.
  2. At every abbey, ask for the stamp politely, during opening hours. The bike stays outside sacred spaces.
  3. If there is no stamp, use an alternative: a local stamp, a signature or a dated photo.
  4. When you reach Montecassino, keep your credential: you will be able to request the Testimonium once it is available.

Here you'll find what is still missing, written down, with no promises. Those who leave their email will get the dates first.
