GPX 1.1 file with the track, elevation and the abbeys as waypoints. Tracks are calculated on real roads and cycle routes (OpenStreetMap): check them on the ground before you set off.
Gravel variant: 69 km · D+ 90 m · 32% unpaved (main track: 0%)
Calculated with a profile that prefers gravel roads and dirt tracks (BRouter on OpenStreetMap data): more natural surface and less traffic, sometimes slower. Check it on the ground, especially after rain.

Overview
An essentially flat stage along the Adige valley from Bolzano to Trento, among vineyards, orchards and castles, almost entirely on the valley cycle path.
Notes from the road
The Adige accompanies the road with its slow current and orderly vine rows. The Ora wind changes direction in the afternoon: better to start early to have fresh legs when it blows against you. Ora, Egna and Salorno offer fountains at a steady rhythm. The cycle path runs separated from cars for almost the whole stretch.
What to see
Bolzano historic centre, Runkelstein Castle, Archaeological Museum with Ötzi, wine villages along the way (Salorno), Trento cathedral and the Castello del Buonconsiglio
Where to sleep
Hotels and B&Bs in Bolzano (75-110€); agriturismo near Salorno (60-85€); religious guesthouses in Trento (50-75€)
Where to eat
Speck Alto Adige, Schiava and Teroldego wines, apple strudel, canederli, mountain trout
Tips
The Ora wind typically blows from the south in the morning and swings north in the afternoon. It favours those descending from Bolzano in the morning, and works against them in the afternoon.
Water & supplies
Continuous water and services along the Adige cycle path: Ora, Egna, Salorno, Mezzocorona. No isolated sections; in the afternoon the Ora wind blows from the south, so morning riding is best. Frequent bike-grills and fountains.
