Overview

A descent from the Sacra di San Michele down the Val di Susa towards Turin. After the steep road leaving Monte Pirchiriano, the route follows the valley cycle path between the lakes of Avigliana and the morainic hill, entering Turin along the Dora.

Notes from the road

The descent from the Sacra follows the provincial road up from Avigliana, with stretches over eleven percent. Check your brakes before setting off. Works on the tower's internal lift have run since 2025, with opening planned for 2026. The visit stays possible regardless, with a few local limits. The valley-floor cycle path of the Val di Susa accompanies riders to Turin, touching a village every kilometre. If two spare kilometres remain past the Sacra, Colle Braida has a fountain to drink at in the shade.

What to see

Sacra di San Michele on Mount Pirchiriano, lakes of Avigliana, Rivoli Castle with its contemporary art museum, Turin historic centre, Mole Antonelliana, arcades of Via Po

Where to sleep

B&B and hotels in Turin (60-100€); accommodation at the Sacra (donation); Turin hostels (35-55€)

Where to eat

Vitello tonnato, bagna cauda, agnolotti, Piedmontese zabaione, Turin gianduiotti and bicerin

Tips

The initial descent from the Sacra is steep and technical: check your brakes. The Val di Susa cycle path is well signposted. Turin offers excellent services and bike mechanics.

Water & supplies

Water in Avigliana and Rivoli; continuous services along the Dora valley floor. No isolated sections: the cycle path passes through villages every few kilometres. The only caution is the steep initial descent from the Sacra: check your brakes.
